Looking for a good book?
It occured to me that there are a lot of books about Joel and Ethan out there. Let me try and gather some of them together here. I’ll start with the ones I’ve actually read. The Coen Brothers by Ronald Bergan. Has some good insight into the way they work. The Big Lebowski: The Making of a Coen Brothers Film
by William Preston Robertson with help from Ethan’s wife Tricia Cooke. Talks a lot about the making of the first film Blood Simple and some in depth scene analysis with storyboards from Lebowski. Then there’s Gates of Eden
by Ethan Coen. A collection of short stories. Hilarious, Horrific, and Coenesque.
Here’s a few others…
The Coen Brothers: The Life of the Mind by James Mottram
The Coen Brothers: The Story of Two American Filmmakers by Josh Levine
Coen Brothers: Virgin Film by Eddie Robson
The Drunken Driver Has the Right of Way by Ethan Coen
The Films of Joel and Ethan Coen by Caroline R. Russell
