IFC Center Screening The Coen Brothers

ifccenter Every weekend for 8 weeks IFC Center in New York will be screening a different Coen Brothers film.  You can catch all the classics at midnight on both Friday and Saturday starting July 24th.  Blood Simple, Raising Arizona, Miller’s Crossing, Barton Fink, Fargo, The Big Lebowski, The Man Who Wasn’t There, and No Country For Old Men will all be shown.  This is a great chance to catch up on any of the filmography you may have missed in the theater.  They missed The Hudsucker Proxy, O Brother Where Art Thou?, Intolerable Cruelty, and The Ladykillers.  Do you think they picked the right 8?

Coming Soon: The Achievers

achieversposter If you’ve been to a Lebowski Fest event, wanted to go, or just love The Big Lebowski you’re in luck.  Documentarian Eddie Chung has taken a 5 year look at the phenomenon which is Lebowski Fest.  This feature length documentary is playing in select theaters across the country and will be out on DVD August 18th.  Not sure how you can purchase the DVD just yet but keep an eye on theachieversmovie.com for details.  Any movie with the tagline “You’re not dealing with morons here’” is okay in my book.

Turturro Talks Lebowski 2

Here’s an interview with John Turturro were he talks about The Big Lebowski and the one project he wants to do, The Big Lebowski 2.  He even says Joel and Ethan have discussed the possibility.  This is probably the only Coen Brothers movie that ever gets sequel rumors.  The likelihood of this happening is still low, but it would be fun to see.  There’s a million possibilities for a sequel but perhaps a prequel is a better idea, I can’t imagine The Dude and Walter without Donny.

A Serious Man Updates

Apparently there have been some screenings of the Coen Brothers latest film A Serious Man.  At least one confirmed in New York for people who worked on Ethan Coen’s play Offices.  One viewer described it as “Very Hebrew” and that it “was shot beautifully, Michael Stuhlbarg is a genius, and it plays like a fable out of Jewish folklore.”

Also, the MPAA has released their rating of A Serious Man.  Rated R for language, some sexuality/nudity and brief violence.

October 2nd gets closer everyday.  Can’t wait!

Offices Final Performance Tonight

offices Ethan’s trio of plays focused on modern office life closes tonight.  Originally intended to run through 5/31 the run was extended, slightly, and sees it’s final performance tonight.  The project received mostly positive reviews and was well received by audiences.  The play will more than likely be released in book form like his previous theater effort Almost an Evening.
