In the upcoming A Serious Man there were 3 actors plucked from casting calls in Minnesota where the film was shot and takes place. Jessica McManus was one of them and she plays Sarah Gopnik daughter of Larry Gopnik our “Serious Man”. Seventeen at the time she’s now graduated from High School and is heading off to College. Here’s an article from her hometown paper the Post-Bulletin of Rochester, MN. Look for the film in theaters starting October 2nd.
I just stumbled across a story I’d never heard before. Looks like McDormand almost didn’t get the role of Abby in Blood Simple because of a Soap Opera. Not because she was starring in it but because she had to watch it. Read the full story at legendsrevealed.com it’s the last story on the post.
Tim Blake Nelson’s latest film American Violet had a limited release on April 17th. Though he’s only been in the one Coen Brothers movie he’s still one of my favorite characters. Here’s an interview he did where the Coens come up.
Gabriel Byrne is busy these days playing psychoanalyst Paul Weston on HBO’s In Treatment. Season two starts on Sunday night. Here’s a good interview with Gabriel that gets into Miller’s Crossing about half way through. At one point Gabriel says “I asked the Coens what their inspiration was to write the film, and I forget whether it was Joel or Ethan who said to me: ‘You always see gangsters in the street, but you never see them in a forest.’” Sounds like Ethan to me. Check it out at The Hollywood Interview.
